It’s a good sign that when you announce you’ve signed with Dr. Dre that a week later a song featuring the good doc is released. While Kendrick fans will be happy that Dre brings his penchant for sound mixing here, new fans won’t see what all the fuss is about. You also may be confused as to why Dre is rapping like Kendrick and I don’t mean just because Kendrick wrote Dre’s verses. I mean from a “song point of view”. Is it beneficial to hear two guys with the same flow, just one with a deeper voice, on the same track? It kind of feels like Dre is only showing up on here for “promotional purposes” which cheapens the whole thing. While west coasters are claiming this as a new anthem of sorts, I think Wiz’s California is a much better representation of left coast life (and he’s ironically from Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh).
Bonus: Kendrick and Dre speak to Big Boy about the making of The Recipe.
