Lupe Fiasco “I Don’t Want to Be Jay-Z”

An interview with The Age, Lupe Fiasco talks about his level of success and celebrity and how he doesn’t believe success is defined by attaining “Jay-Z status”. Lupe says,

“I don’t want to be Jay-Z and be worth $400 million and perform on every awards show. It’s getting in touch with somebody who needs to improve their self-esteem. As opposed to driving a Bentley and putting some chains on.”

Ohhh shots! I see what he’s saying and I actually feel a warm spot in my heart hearing that (maybe I’m having a mild heart attack) but being the cynic I am I think only people who say they don’t want the success Jay-Z has, can’t and never will have that level of success so they write it off.

  1. but lupe is always gonna stay “under the radar” and i think that i what he truly wants, “the peoples champ”.. who wants to be as big as jay really, too much pressure

  2. i don’t know, how about you ask yourself; would i like to be a multi-millionaire with investment upon investment only INCREASING my value?

but, i do know what lupe is saying, and the artist in him is keeping him humble.

the thing is, jay is so big because he believed he was the best, and proved it- same with wayne nowadays. every artist has different goals.
