Top 10 Best Hip Hop Albums of All Time
Posted on: September 29, 2007 19 comments so far (is that a lot?)These albums are albums that you must listen to in order for you to have a conversation with me. Honorable mention to T.I.’s Urban Legend and Hov’s Blueprint, Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle and Wu-Tang’s 36 Chambers and Wu-Tang Forever. I know some of yall are going to be mad about N.O.R.E. being on here, but these are albums that I personally grew up with, and that meant something to me. Ahhh how can you hate on that? Okay you can hate, but only in the comment section.
10. Noreaga -N.O.R.E.
This was just a fun album that had some of the best production of the new era ever. It also helped propel The Neptunes into the cool nerds they are today.
9. 50 Cent – Get Rich Or Die Tryin
An album that culminates everything before it with the simple phrase “GO GO GO SHAWTY..”
8. Capone-N-Noreaga – The War Report
This is the last classic album from New York from the Golden Era, CNN was on some IRAQ shit back then. I doubt they would be as pro-Islamic as they once were today.
This is before Outkast went too left field for my taste.
6. Raekwon – Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
The most colorful album ever. Remember the purple tape? The production on here coupled the sampling age with a more cinematic experience. Not to mention everyone became Italian mobsters after this. I know it sounds corny, it was the mid-90s. Nas’s guest appearance here is insane.
5. Method Man – Tical
This is when Meth wasn’t Hollywood and his flow was in another world, plus he made no damn sense, which was great.
4. Tupac – All Eyez on Me
This album is pretty much the blueprint for all the good artist from the South. This album marked the beginning of Pac’s end as he had just come out of jail and was signed to Death Row and the rest, well you know the rest.
3. Jay-Z – Reasonable Doubt
The album that pretty much changed the world, but no one cared until Volume 2 came out.
2. Nas – It Was Written
The intro on this album is enough to call this classic as this album introduced the new age of hip hop away from the “break beats” and “dusty samples” of Illmatic. Don’t get me wrong Illmatic was great but I was way too young when that album came out for it to effect me.
1. Notorious B.I.G. – Ready to Die: The Remaster
Greatest rap album of all time. This album is the blueprint of everything. This was also the prologue to the “shiny suit” era.

are u 14 years old?this list is appalling. There are no albums from before 1994. novice ass motherfucker
November 1st, 2007 at 10:02 pm
No, I’m 22. If I was 14, Soulja Boy would be on this list. You old ass fools are just that, old ass fools. Unlike Lupe I actually own Midnight Marauders, PE’s Fear of a Black Planet, Eric B & Rakim’ s Paid in Full, KRS-One’s Return of the Boom Bap. But not being born in the early 70s like you old timers, I went to those albums later on in life. Those albums shaped the sound of the 90’s, but the albums I list shaped the sound of today.

Yo I agree with the list… You cant act like there was NO classic albums after 1996. But its like anything, u got Old School and new school, Old School gets angry because they think New School dont recpect it, New School gets angry because Old School doesnt shutup about the old days and how much Hip Hop sucks… dont get me wrong… the last 2 years have been appalling for Hip Hop with the exception of Kanye & Lupe’s albums I havent bought any new stuff, but you gotta respect those albums in the late 90’s early 00s that helped Hip Hop cross over…. now it just sucks that its in massive demand and so many wack artists are getting deals

dude, I know you wanted to be knew and I agree old school people will never admit that anything new is good but you missed some absolutely essential old albums. First, you can possibly be serious putting it was written instead of illmatic??? Really??? I mean maybe you personaly dont like illmatic but if you wanna make a list of the best albums of all time then dont be stupid about it. You also should have the chronic on there. I mean it just has to be there. I dont think you can justify putting get rich or die trying in the top 10. It is an amazingly well produced album but it is lacking lyrically. I like what ur trying to do with this though, and I agree outkast is waaaay to far out there now though I did like aquemeni and stankonia.

hey am pretty dissapointed by the list compiled because the truth is even biggy’s does not seem to justify his stature as a hip hop artist
March 19th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
HORRIBLE…NORE?Capone-Nore? 50? horrible..Outkast were nice but top 10..hahahahaha
for Nas you have It Was Written….did you meant to say ILLMATIC>.?
April 28th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
I have to agree with everyone else here…how can you put 50 Cent and Noreaga next to Tupac and Jay-Z? I respect new music as much as the old but if youre going to make a best of all-time list you do it right and put the best albums on it. Where is It Takes a Nation of Millions? Where is 36 Chambers? Where is Straight Outta’ Compton? And where the hell is Illmatic?
June 9th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
that is the worst list i have ever seen
June 14th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
actually i like this list, it’s from the GOLDEN ERA of hip-hop, what was before and after isnt as good
July 8th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
this is a pretty bad list man… it was written was good, but its not illmatic!! 50 cent is some shit and not even mentionable. #10-7 needs to be erased and illmatic put at one. put a tribe album and mecca and the soul brother on there, plus 36 chambers and u might be good.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
I cant believe you have the nerve.
July 14th, 2009 at 6:26 am
