The Top 10 Rappers That Need to Retire Yesterday

Posted on: June 15, 2009 14 comments so far (is that a lot?)

In an effort to bring the rap game some new fresh faces, we bring to you the top 10 rappers that really should have retired a long time ago. Keep in mind we’re not saying these guys suck, but really at this point in their career they have nothing valid to say and are just taking up good air. Even though we know most of them won’t retire because of this list and even if they did they would be back next year with a “comeback” album, we do hope it makes them take a long look in the mirror in the morning. Oh the humanity…

Nas
10. Nas
Considered among the greatest, this guy hasn’t put out anything worth writing to your friend in jail about since Stillmatic and that was in 2001. That’s a one hot album every ten year averageJay-Z.

jay z
9. Jay-Z
Speaking of Hov, this guy’s flow has become staler than what’s in between Lil Kim‘s thighs. His latest raps either sound like he’s out of breath or really doesn’t care anymore, I’m not even going to go into his awkward rhyme patterns or that wussy whisper voice he occasionally brings out.

dr dre
8. Dr. Dre
Really, I don’t want to hear this guy spit another man’s rap. That alone should have had this man banned from entering the booth.

fat joe
7. Fat Joe
Fat Joe’s like the uncle that still thinks he’s young and rocks a du-rang and a jersey to family bar-b-q’s. Your telling me that in the entire America there isn’t any Puerto Ricans that rap better than Fat Joe right now? It’s friggen’ 2010 for god sakes!

Redman Method Man
5. Method Man & Redman
I know Meth and Red are hood heroes but these guys are like the old guys that cut hair at the barbershop that refuse to grow up and talk about their past glory while they give you a taper.

Busta Rhymes
4. Busta Rhymes
Yes Busta comes through every year with the “silly club banger” but those songs are so easy to make. Just get a zany beat and say something “funny” on the hook. Presto. Soulja Boy has made his career doing this.

Ice Cube
3. Ice Cube
Ice Cube’s gangster rap career was over the second he stepped on the Are We There Yet set.

LL Cool J
2. LL Cool J
Have you seen how delusional LL’s become lately? This guy’s still built but his body is looking like Hulk Hogan, all loose and sh*t. His rap career has been on Def Jam life support for the last 10 years, thank god is contract finished after the disaster that was 13.

Snoop Dogg
1. Snoop Dogg
I think every self-respecting rap fan in the world hates Snoop Dogg. After Snoop sang through T-Pain’s ass on “Sensual Seduction” he should have made his final curtain call.

What’s with rappers afraid of retiring? They think they are going to become Earl Simmons? I will say if these eastcoast rappers do retire people will have to accept (something that should have been accepted along time ago) that eastcoast rap is dead

  2. YoRapper Says:

Yeah imagine working at a company where all the management and senior staff was the same forever. No new ideas would enter into that company and I bet it would go bankrupt, same thing with rap.

  3. Ivan Says:

I Agree with everyone except Jay-Z just because DOA was a solid track.

  4. murphy Says:

Em , Curtis should be on here,

  5. Lee Says:

I think Jay Z, LL Cool J, and Dre needs to retire. Everyone else can stay! Jay Z, REPETITIVE, Jay Z +Beyonce= ANNOYING!

With rappers like Kid Cudi and Drake, it gives us a breath of fresh air on where rap is headed! I looove those two. I feel that NAS will make some great beneficial contributing tracks on BOTH albums. I think Hov’s days are up! No one wants a ‘cocci phoney swag’ on Cudi and Drakes ECCLETIC FLAVOR!

so u sayin dat these niggaz retiring is gonna automatically cause the drakes and kuid kudis and lupe fiascos to “blow up”? lets get to the real issue. first of all, when the jay zs and busta rhymes were on the come up, they took the game. it wasnt handed to them. so drakes generation is no acception. their talent is gonna have to force these older rappers out. second of all… u dnt retire from rapping. u retire when u die or lose your voice. trust me, when u actually love what u doin u keep doin it until u have a legit reason not to. niggaz treating hip hop like nba or sumthin. its not dat serious. in all the other music genres like r n b, gospel, jazz, reggae, dancehall, rock, soul and classical u never see the bullshit we got in rap about age. 39/40 is young as hell. for hip hop. yes i fucking said it and im only 18. music is music. hip hop started off as a young people thing but it has evolved into a thing for all ages. from 10 to 80. hip hop fans are all ages. and my generation just sounds threatened dat we aint have no one dat can be on the same level as a jay z, or busta rhymes or nas or ice cube. niggaz just need to man up. hov aint goin no where. he got too many fans to just pick up and leave. if u cant understand dat then your whole perspective is fucking wack. these guys can rap till they teeth fall out for all i care. they make good music which is something i know 90 percent of these bloggers cant even do, yet they talkin bout “oh, nigga u 45 years old, u too old to rap” get da fuck outta here with the bullshit. when a younger rapper steps up to the plate he will be the new king. but even then the older rappers can still do what they love and dats make good music.

I like the contraversy thats going on right now… shows alot of emotion in the hiphop world which is good, it shows were not settling for the b.s.!
In my perspctive, theres nothing wrong with rappers retiring… but some dont do it to make radio hits or do it for the monetary assets.. My favorite rapper has always been Nasty nas… his last album i feel was an issue of him just laying down his usual rhymes, his nasty flow, and his general thoughts. I didnt hear too much of him on the radio and i still got to peep my favorite rapper and his newest music. If you ask me, the hiphip nation is on the way of moving… but wegotta let it move,we cant force it..

I use to think that rap n hiphop could only be done by the gangsters or the thugs, but its 2009 and we’re onthe move towards change.. KanYe West.. like him or hate him, his last album 80′s n heartbreak.. good melody, some good lyrics, but over all a good message that he delivered…So who ever your favorite rapper is, dont let their fate die just because your getting sick ofthem sucking (jay z).. just show that what they’ve done in the past is enough to keep the hiphop energy going. If you suck, you suck. It is what it is, but if your doing it because you feel obligated to let it out and you got shit on your mind. Then thatswhats up! thats what this is all about… The only thing i gotta say is that Eminem use to be my somewhat inspiration… now I wish he would never pick up a microphone again. Dont Kill yaself in the game! putting the mic down is no shame!
    Peace…

  14. bennett Kofi Says:

hey yo, i think u’have been listening to mainstream hip-hop too much, what they heck??? NAS??, are u crazy??, nas is still holdin strong, i bet y’re one of those southern ngas, who love soulja boy shit.lol
