Joe Budden Padded Room Sales

Well it looks like what they say about Joe Budden fans being “downloading bastids” is true. Padded Room’s first week sales clock in at a disapointing 13,860 units. I personally thought he would have done around 30k.

Another interesting thing is K’naan’s Troubador sold just over 15k. Now if you don’t know who K’aan is he’s like a Somali-Canadian Mos Def/Bob Marley/Q-Tip type rapper. He’s also had a fairly considerable internet buzz to people within a certain demographic -tree hugging/anti-war/liberal internet douce bags. He’s managed to outsell Budden because his fans don’t bootlegg because it is “stealing from the artist” and they are all in their twenties and thirties and can afford to buy an album.

What do you think about Padded Room’s first week sales?

Who cares about albums sales. Joe budden doesnt put out albums to sell a gazillion copies anyway. He puts out creative thought provoking introspective music that his hard-core fans love. And since most people are idiots hes not gonna go double platinum.

Either I don’t know anything about album sales (which is quite possibly the truth) or I have low expectations. I love Joe Budden, but I have never heard any marketing for his album. I live in Houston. I’m sure that’s why. I don’t know about the marketing tactics employed in different cities, but they definitely missed H-Town. Maybe there’s not enough of a Joey buzz down here.

I didn’t even know Joey had fans in H-town. lol.

    I’m impressed. lol

The thing with Padded Room is that it was released on an indie label so they are not going to have the same amount of money like a Def Jam or any big record lable has to market an album. So they probably only marketed it in areas where they knew it would sell (i.e. eastcoast) and did viral marketing via the internet.
