Jay-Z Vs Big Pun: Whose Better?
Posted on: September 1, 2008 7 comments so far (is that a lot?)
Random question of the day, since it’s a slow labor day, whose better Jay-Z or Big Pun? Let’s make this more interesting which album is better Jay-Z’s first album “Reasonable Doubt” or Big Pun’s first album “Capital Punishment”.
It’s hard to say my favorite joint of “Reasonable Doubt” is probably “Can I Live” where my favorite joint of Capital Punishment” is “The Dream Shatterer”. I know most will give this one to Jay but let’s hear what yall think?

Ive been debating this arguement and flip flopping my choice but someone mentioned a good point to me. I acclaimed to leaning on so much success of Jay-Z and he has more albums obviously but a remark was said to me as this “It comes down to in there prime who had it going on and controlled more skill and assests.” Now when it comes to lyrics, its close but if you listen to Pun, his vocabulary is more complex as well as his delivery “I hate the fact that im the last addition could have been a stash magician or gone to college and mathmetician.” The way pun jammed so many words into one bar and made it sound good just shows his flow was more complex. Now you can argue that Jay-Z’s flow from 91 is similar, when he use to spit it fast but his lyrics are very repetitive and he used to use fake words. Also we heard Jay spit with L in 95 and it was tight, though no where near L’s level. Puns freestylers were also better “Cruisin the porsche high price up in the source 5 mics.” The punchline aspect is close but on a consistant basis i think Pun takes it. All in all i think Puns the better MC.

This has to be the dumbest question. Jay-z is much better than Big Pun. Only idiots would think otherwise. Big Pun did not have the writing talent and mc skills to showcase the emotion and clarity that Jay-z has through out his career.
Come one. It’s songs like Soon You’ll understand, Regrets and Renegades verses songs like Twinz, Still not a killer and It’s so hard.
Pun was strictly hardcore. It’s like comparing a horror movie to a academy award winning epic.
