Jay-Z Admits His Flaw

In part 2 interview series with MTV, Jay-Z was asked what his biggest flaw on the mic is?

“My voice,” he said, before laughing, “is less than 10. Let’s just say that. I never thought I had a great pitch. … What I do is overcompensate with words and flow.”

I think Jay’s voice used to be a big problem for everyone back in the mid-90s when rappers were expected to sound like they were channeling Freddy Cougar. But now a days, the less normal your voice sounds the easier it is for you to separate yourself from the crowd. But Jay still sounds like a 14 year old.

Lil Wayne Gets Complex

Lil Wayne

Weezy F. makes another magazine cover this month (what it is four covers in the last month?), this time he graces the pages of Mark Ecko’s mag, Complex. The funniest thing about the interview is when Lil Wayne was asked about the disparaging remarks The Clipse had said about him. To refresh your memory they said he was a Jay-Z clone and was biting their fashion style, specifically with regards to the Bapes hoodies and bapesta shoes. Weezy says,

“I thought the whole ‘Mr. Me Too’ video was about me, to tell you the damn truth. They think I want to be like them. I’m on a million-dollar bus going around the world charging people from $50,000 to $150,000 for verses, and I got 77 songs in magazines and I got a billion more. Do the math; you think I’m trying to be like you? No sir.”

Haha. I really don’t think the Clipse should go to war with Weezy. To borrow from Hov, I don’t know why their advisers ain’t forewarn ‘em. To read the interview in it’s entirety the Weezy Complex issue hits stands in December.

P.S. The cover looks more like a Tupac Mr. Me Too.

Jay-Z aka One Take Hov

Jay-Z
Jigga aka Jay-Z sat down with MTV to discuss his “lyric writing process” or lack thereof. He discusses his recording process in how he went from writing lyrics on Reasonable Doubt to not writing a thing down and how he has inspired the younger rappers to follow suit. He also has some advice for aspiring rappers.

I really don’t know why this is such a big deal, he still thinks of what he is going to say before he goes into the booth. Any rapper with at least five years in the game should be able to do this already. Also, if you notice in the Fade to Black movie Jay doesn’t necessarily spit an entire sixteen bar verse straight out. If you watch closely he looks as if he does a four or eight bar verse and just does a punch’n.

Yall know how all these other rappers have come out of nowhere making the same claim Hov has about not writing down their lyrics. But all of them do the same punch’n method too, I’m sure yall seen that video of T.I. and Just Blaze recording and T.I. was doing punch’ns for damn near every line. However, Lil Wayne’s claim that he doesn’t write down a lyric (nor even premeditate what he is going to say?) is believable cause he usually just says random stuff until one line sticks. He uses a process called “free association” where you just say whatever comes to mind in relation to how the beat makes you feel.

Anyway here’s the full link and video to Jay-Z’s interview.
