REVIEW: Jay-Z - American Gangster

American Gangster (Album Cover)

Review: 4 out of 5

Best Song: Pray

When Jay announced about a month ago (after all the Kanye hoopla) that he was dropping an album in November, the hip hop world went nuts. Just when it seemed like hip hop was suffering a mass case of writer’s block the idea of a Kanye album followed up by the Big Homie was unbelievable. To add to this, Jay also announced his album would be a concept album inspired by the film by the same title “American Gangster” and sonically would blend Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint, two of Hov’s most critically acclaimed albums. It’s safe to say, Jigga fans took heed. So has the album lived up to the hype or is it another Kingdom Come? Short answer, this album is short of Reasonable Doubt (1996) and The Blueprint (2001), but is in serious contention as Jigga’s 3rd best album. The only problem with the album is at times Jigga has really nothing to say and on some joints his flow falls into the same vein as the flows he kicked on Kingdom Come (which were horrible by the way). Read the full break down, there’s a goodie at the end.

That Fake Hood Shit (Dj Khaled’s I’m So Hood remix)

Jena 6
Dj Khaled is officially fake. Yeah sure he knows how to put together some hot records, (though he doesn’t rap or produce any of the hits he has put out, he’s sorta of like an overconfident Diddy). But his newest video to the remix “I’m So Hood” in which features Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, T-Pain, Rick Ross, Big Boi, Birdman and Busta Rhymes (Exhale) is a serious blow against his credibility. Why? His latest video “I’m So Hood (remix)” is shot with the various rappers standing in front of a “green screen”, which through the magic of computers will show their respective “hoods”. Wow.

Now I’m all for using “green screen” in Spiderman 3 and such, but when you have a song called “I’m So Hood” and you shoot the video inside a studio lot with maximum security, it just oozes with fakeness. I do realize the majority of “remix” videos are shot in front of “green screen” due to budget constraints, but in this case it is a serious violation of hip hop tennet #1 thou shall keep it real. Dj Khaled you scream “We The Best” all the damn time, but I always wondered best at what? Now I know, keeping it fake. Cheerio.

Mate1 Booty Call?

Just when I thought I’d seen it all on the internet, I find a new website solely dedicated to the pursuit of happiness. No not getting money, but getting all kinds of booty. Horny guys like you and me get to meet horny chicks and arrange what the site calls “casual dates” (read: booty calls). Thats right booty calls, one night stands, short term flings, cut buddies, whatever you want to call it just don’t call it marriage.

The site I am refering to is Mate1.com and aside from being of the most popular dating sites, they also have a unique social networking site in that your sole purpose for being on the site is to get some booty. It is straight to the point, there isn’t this feeling of surprise if you happen to sleep with someone you just met, you damn well know that once you get the talking to someone your probably going to sleep with them.

If your skeptical like me, your probably thinking there are only a handful of women on the site and zillions of guys right? So I actually signed up to the site to see if real women were on it and to my surprise there are more women than guys ready to answer that 2 am booty call. In fact, after a week of “looking” I had already arranged a few late night activities myself.

Now the quality of women and men (yeah I looked at that too for the ladies reading this) depends on your personal taste, but I saw enough sexy black, white and Spanish chicks on there that pass the “butta face” test. It also doesn’t hurt that they are all FREAKY.

Only problem with this site is you have to sign up to do a full search, but like any good social networking site, sign up is FREE. So if you want to arrange some easy booty calls join right now by clicking here Mate1.com. Trust me, you’ll thank me in a week.

If you are a hopeless romantic, here are some other more traditional dating sites. I haven’t done a formal review of them as yet, but from what I’ve heard all of them are decent and they are all fairly popular. *If your already a member of any of these sites please contact me to tell me your experience. I may use your experience in an upcoming review.

Amor
More for Latin singles or those looking for Latin lovers. Hispanic girls are sexy, so no problem finding a Dominican or Puerto Rican chick here. Another good thing about this site is that you can change the language settings from Spanish to English.

BBWPersonalsPlus
For those interested in Big Beautiful Women and Big Handsome Men. My dudes looking for voluptuous women, this is your spot.

BlackSingles
Mainstream dating site for Black people, or those looking to hook up with a Black person. This is the best site for African-Americans over the age of 25 and up as I didn’t see too many youngin’ on there.

ChristianMingle
As the title suggest, for those of the Christian faith looking for a Christian partner. This was one of the first Christian based dating sites as it has been in operation since 1996. Excellent track record, but just make sure your a real practicing Christian before you sign up.

Date
Another popular dating site with mainstream appeal, all kinds of people.

eHarmony
A popular dating site for everyone. This is probably the most brand recognized dating site, very mainstream, all the features, and a lot of different people to meet. Everyone should sign up to this one first, before narrowing their search.

InterracialMatch.com

The best, largest and most successful interracial dating site in the world.

InterracialSingles.com

This site should double as a video chick modeling agency because the mix chicks are doing it!

True
For Asians or those looking to meet an Asian. This is a good niche as it is difficult for Asians to meet other Asians particularly in North America (depends where you live).

Joe Budden -Heart of the City

Joe Budden
So here’s the story, some dude who used to be “in” with Joe made a diss record over the “big brother” beat and it was pretty trash. But Joe being the rapper he is responded anyway and just destroys this dude. See for yourself.

Jena 6: Ballin’ Out of Control?

Jena 6
When we saw two of the “JENA 6″ all iced out and geared up looking like the Shop Boyz clones on the 2007 BET Hip Hop Awards we suspected they may be on the wrong path. This video only confirms the worst. Here is a montage of photos taken from Robert Bailey Jr’s Myspace page, he was one of the “JENA 6″. In the words of Dave Chappelle’s Rick James character “They should have never given you niggas money!” Check the clip out.

Movie: Black Supaman Starring Master P

Money

This straight to dvd hood movie starring Master P, Tony Knox (that midget dude from Friday) and Red (that ol’ comedian from BET Comic View). Released in August of ‘07, this movie is so ghetto it’s actually funny in a high school movie project kind of way. But it really becomes apparent Master P has way too much money.

Part 2

Check this video/song by Big Lou, he’s from Camden, NJ. This is what hip hop needs. He still needs to work on his flow a little, just a little. His myspace is here.

The “F” You I’m Hot motto

Money

Success has many different definitions for some it is about attaining a monetary value such as a million dollars for others its about having a career that you love. Personally, the best possible definition of success would likely be a combination of both, making millions of dollars while doing what you love to do. Under this definition, the majority of people are unsuccessful. In fact, if you are reading this, you probably hate your job, hate school or hate that you don’t have a job. Why?

The number one reason people are not successful is because they settle. They want to survive, instead of thrive. They set the bar so low that even if they are on autopilot they can achieve their “goal”. They settle on something that is not going to bring them freedom and millions of dollars. Let’s examine this further, the effect of “settling” on one’s mind, tells a person this is all I can achieve. It creates a victim mentality, rather than a victor mentality. By admitting defeat by taking that lousy job you put a cap on your ability to succeed. Look at every successful person, they took huge risks and did not give up. If Bill Gates had not dropped out of Harvard, he would not be the richest man on Earth. Thus, the number one trait to being successful in anything is being stubborn. Just as one cannot win forever, one cannot fail forever as long as you continue to TRY. That “closed door” cannot stay closed forever. As long as you are always trying, you can never fail.

For example, I have been developing my musical abilities for a long time and have continually persisted for years to develop my talents. As a youngster, I thought talent was all that was needed, but it is really only a part. The biggest part is stubbornness. Let me clarify, you see I had to be stubborn and say this is what I am going to do and have a “fuck you I’m hot” mentality about it. If anyone knows about how cutthroat the music business is or in fact any business is you know you have to develop “thick skin” to survive the detractors let alone your own demons. This year my goal was to attain radio play, do a big show of 10,000 people and have a video out. I had no clue how I was going to achieve that, as I had no material out and obviously no record deal. But everyday, I made a conscious effort to make strives toward these “power moves” that would ultimately separate myself from the competition. The year isn’t even up and I have already achieved all three of these goals and then some.

I put this out here not to brag, but to inspire you. You see had I not said “fuck you I’m hot” to the haters early on, I would have given up already and be another bitter dude at the barbershop. If you are ambitious, which I assume you are as you have read this far, my only advice for you is to never ever ever give up. Make calculated moves toward your goal, don’t waste time, and most of all be stubborn. Remember “Fuck You I’m Hot”.
